What is a drop-side cot?
A drop-side cot features a side panel that can be lowered, reducing the distance between you and your baby when lifting them in and out of the cot.
With the Beckett Drop-Side Cot, lowering the side means less reaching and less lifting, creating a more ergonomic experience during everyday routines like settling, resettling and those middle-of-the-night cuddles. Are drop-side cots safe?
If you've researched drop-side cots before, you've probably come across conflicting information online. Much of it relates to older overseas designs that relied on hardware which could loosen or fail, creating potential entrapment hazards. While those products were banned in countries including the United States and Canada, Australia introduced strict mandatory safety requirements instead.
Today, all cots sold in Australia, including drop-side designs, must comply with the Consumer Goods (Infant Products) Safety Standard 2024, which references the Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 2172:2013 and sets mandatory safety requirements for infant cots.
